Minority Claims: Many Distorting Facts to Turn Ghanaians Against Speaker.
The Minority in Parliament has rebuked the Majority for contesting the Speaker's decision to halt the approval process for nominated Ministers and Deputy Ministers of State.
Members of the NDC have urged the Majority to take accountability for the situation instead of shifting blame. They assert that the Speaker's decision to suspend the approval process was deliberate and aimed at obstructing the President and his government from garnering necessary support.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, March 20, NPP MPs called for public condemnation of Speaker Alban Bagbin's actions. However, their counterparts, in a subsequent press statement, labeled this stance as "bizarre and unfortunate," urging Ghanaians to disregard such rhetoric.
The Minority reiterated that the Majority Caucus is resorting to intentional distortions and extensive propaganda to incite public sentiment against the Speaker.
"After witnessing its own setback in Parliament on Wednesday, our attention has been drawn to a misleading statement released by the Majority Caucus, faulting the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament and the Minority Caucus for the parliamentary development."
"It is both bizarre and unfortunate that the Majority Caucus accuses Mr. Speaker of arbitrariness and falsely alleges that the Speaker and the Minority are obstructing purported government business."
"The Majority Caucus is deliberately distorting facts and engaging in extensive propaganda to stir public sentiment against the Rt. Hon. Speaker and the Minority Caucus with these baseless accusations,” an excerpt from the Minority’s statement declared.
The Minority further emphasized that the Majority's attempt to scapegoat the Speaker and the Minority for the parliamentary impasse is unfounded and misleading. They underscored the importance of upholding parliamentary procedures and principles, stating that their actions were in line with the rules and regulations governing parliamentary processes.
Additionally, they highlighted the need for transparency and accountability in government affairs, urging the Majority to desist from politicizing parliamentary proceedings for their own agenda.
"We reiterate that the Speaker's decision was made in accordance with parliamentary rules and regulations. It is regrettable that the Majority Caucus is resorting to such tactics to deflect attention from their own shortcomings," the Minority stated.
The ongoing dispute between the Majority and Minority in Parliament has raised concerns about the functioning of the legislative body and its ability to effectively carry out its duties. As tensions continue to simmer, both sides are urged to engage in constructive dialogue and work towards resolving their differences in the best interest of the nation.
